Pork Sausage & Potato Tostadas Recipe

Mexican typical appetizer very used in celebrations and Mexican parties. Even at wakes it is common to see tostadas offered to guests.

Pork sausage and potato mix

  • 21 oz Pork sausage
  • 35 oz Cooked potatoes
  • 2 Serrano chiles (optional)
  • 2 Onions

Refried beans

  • Olive oil
  • 1/2 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 5 cups Cooked beans
  • Chipotles in adobo
  • Oaxaca cheese


  • Mexican tostadas
  • Sour cream
  • Cotija cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Mexican sauce


Pork sausage and potato mix

  • Pork sausage is usually wrapped with a thin plastic layer. To remove this layer with ease, cover the sausage with a little water before peeling.
  • Smash the pork sausage with a fork. You can do it in a frying pan to cook it while you smash it.
  • When the pork sausage is fried add 1 chopped onion.
  • Peel the steamed potatoes and mash them. Add them to the pork sausage along with 2 serrano chiles. Mix well all the ingredients in the pan and check the seasoning.

Refried beans

  • Fry 1 chopped onion in a little olive oil. Add 1/2 tablespoon of garlic powder. Add 5 cups of cooked beans and smash them until they are refried.
  • Add chipotles in adobo, Oaxaca cheese and stir until the cheese is melted.

Tostadas prep

  • Spread refried beans on toast. You can use the amount you want.
  • Place the mixture of potatoes with sausage on each toast. Add a fist of lettuce, cream, grated cotija cheese and sauce to taste. You can also accompany with slices of avocado.
  • Eat immediately or the toast will become watery and break easily.



  • You can make them with different ingredients. It uses shredded chicken, tinga, beef leg, starry egg and other types of meat.
  • Ideally, get thick toast so that it does not break so easily.
  • After preparing them, eat immediately so that the toast does not become watery and does not fall apart.
  • You can eat with slices of avocado.
  • Cotija cheese can be replaced with fresh grated cheese.
